A SAMPLING OF SHIPS

Much has been said about how Gene Roddenberry’s vision of humanity’s future offers hope to us today. On a more prosaic note. STAR TREK productions offer hope to all who have ever sat in the back of the classroom, doodling spaceships while the teacher drones on. Someday, a lucky few might get paid to draw those spaceships, just like Deep Space Nine illustrator Jim Martin.

NEW SETTING, NEW UNIFORMS

As STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE entered preproduction, once again Robert Blackman was called upon to modify the Starfleet uniforms originally designed by William Ware Theiss.

In keeping with the more informal environment of a Cardassian space station in constant need of repairs. Blackman created a new look that would evoke the feel of a worker’s outfit more than a military uniform. Note the pushed-up sleeves and open collars on these sketches.
